Heavy Duty Training Collars & Harnesses for Strong Dogs

A heavy-duty training collar or harness is built to take a strong dog's pull every day: wide webbing, reinforced stitching and steel hardware. Bestia Dog Sport makes ours in 2-inch (5 cm) nylon with stainless steel hardware in our own workshop in Europe. Nylon is the training choice: it handles mud, rain and water work and most of our collars go in the washing machine.

Nylon or leather for a training collar?

Both can be strong. Choose by how you train:

  • Nylon: takes water, mud and sweat, dries fast, and our 2-inch collars are machine-washable (gentle cycle, no detergent, no spin). The sport and training choice.
  • Leather: softens with wear and looks classic, but needs drying and conditioning after wet sessions.

How to fit a heavy-duty collar or harness

  1. Measure the neck where the collar sits, and the widest part of the chest for a harness.
  2. Pick the size where your measurement sits mid-range. See the collar size guide and heavy-duty harness size chart.
  3. Two fingers should slide under the collar or any harness strap.
  4. Check stitching, buckles and hardware before every session.

Heavy-duty collar and harness FAQ

What makes a dog collar heavy-duty?

Wide webbing (ours is 2 inches / 5 cm), reinforced stitching and solid hardware. Our 2-inch collars use stainless steel buckles and D-rings.

Collar or harness for a strong dog that pulls?

Use a harness for walking a strong puller, because it spreads the force across the chest. Use a wide collar or handle collar for close control and training cues.

Are your heavy-duty collars waterproof?

Yes. The 2-inch BDS collar, handle collar, camo collars and the GripPro handle collar are waterproof nylon.

Can I machine-wash a nylon training collar?

Our 2-inch BDS, handle, camo and quick-release collars can go on a gentle cycle without detergent and without spin. Let them air dry.

Where are Bestia Dog Sport collars and harnesses made?

In our own workshop in Europe.
